With today’s COVID-19/Coronavirus Pandemic on the rise, we must be more careful about how we engage our partners to prevent the spread of the virus. Chanel Scott, creator of the relationship platform CheMinistry, shares a few innovative ways to practicing social distancing and to continue building healthy relationships.

1. Video Chat. Now is the time to work on strengthening the communication and connection with your partner, and what better way to practice social distancing than to do a Video Chat, ie FaceTime or Skype. Chemistry isn’t enough to sustain a long lasting and healthy relationship. If you want to nurture a sustainable relationship while taking preventative measures against COVID-19, then you must learn to deepen the connection by taking the time to really get to know your partner through substantive communication about your needs and wants. Healthy communication will sustain the relationship through the rough patches because you and your partner will know what to do to get the relationship back on track… all because you took the time to really get to know each other.

2. Email. Do you struggle to communicate your feelings and intentions with your partner whenever you’re together? During this time of social distancing, practice articulating your feelings through email or even handwriting a letter. Tapping into your authentic self and learning to express your love and affinity toward your partner can be liberating! Chronicling your thoughts or feelings in an email or on paper through your words without fumbling will alleviate the anxiety that can overtake you in the moment. Learning to be transparent with your partner will shift the entire relationship into a deeper place of intimacy.

3. Online Dating.  If you’re single and stuck in the house during this time of social distancing, this is a great time to Google some of your more popular dating sites to meet new people. All you have is time on your hands, right? Now would be a great opportunity to foster new relationships and really get to know someone by communicating via online dating or a dating app. You can take your time and really connect with someone who you are compatible with, without the urge to SKIP the process of building a healthy relationship on a foundation of friendship, love and respect… FIRST.

4. Virtual Dinner. During this time of social distancing we can still enjoy the company of our partner – from a distance. With today’s innovative technology, you can virtually take your partner to dinner without ever leaving your house by ordering through UberEATS.  You can even take it a step further by eating dinner with your partner through video chat. This type of bonding fosters authentic relationship because it requires you to be intentional about your efforts. It will create a deeper level of intimacy between you and your partner because you will have to step outside of your comfort zone to create an environment that will allow you to be present in the moment, engaging and fun. The memories will be unforgettable.

5. Watch Party. Facebook has created an innovative way for you to host a Watch Party by scheduling your favorite movie to stream on your Facebook page. You also have the ability to virtually send an invite to your friends or other couples to watch the movie at a set time. Everyone will “meet up” on your page and join the stream to watch the movie at the same time. You can even talk back and forth in the comments section about your thoughts toward the movie. This is just another way to connect with your partner and still practice social distancing.
