Your Queens, Inc, in collaboration with The Southern Queens Park Association, will host the 7th Annual Kwanzaa Celebration: A Cultural Odyssey on Saturday, December 30th at the Roy Wilkins Recreation Center in Jamaica, Queens. Doors open at 3:00 PM, with festivities starting at 4:00 PM, promising an immersion into African heritage and culture.
Kwanzaa, observed from December 26th to January 1st, focuses on the Nguzo Saba, seven core principles. Your Queens aims to honor these principles with a $20 online or $25 door ticket, available through the Event Link or their website.
The celebration includes:
- Vendor Showcase: A diverse marketplace featuring vendors, including three young entrepreneurs from the Your Queens Rites of Passage Girls Program.
- Culinary Delights and Musical Harmony: Olive 9 Catering will provide delicious dishes, complemented by music from local Queens DJ Ovaload.
- Royal Fashion Showcase: Presenting the latest styles from Your Queens Apparel and Osun Designs by Delali Haligah.
- Tribute to Trailblazers: Honoring seven individuals embodying Kwanzaa’s principles, including Nantasha Williams, Jennifer Canton Odoms, Deacon Louis Taylor, Curtis Turney-Rentas, Vlad Calixte (Just Vlad), Crystal Floyd, and a surprise honoree representing Nia (Purpose).
