Raven Jones represents New York to the fullest. The singer/songwriter delivers music that is both sensual and gritty as well as unapologetically bold. With her honest lyricism and creativity, the sky is the limit.
When did you start performing?
I have always been a person who enjoys storytelling through poetry since I was sixteen. My first musical performance was in 2010 at the Cafe Lounge on 12th Ave in Harlem NYC, singing my single “Again.”
Name some of the artist who have inspired or influenced you?
Man, so many professionals and underground artists have inspired me, but I will name a few: Michael jackson, Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, Jill Scott, Diddy, Missy Elliott, Sade and Kanye West. I am a fan of a lot of battle rappers as well including Murda Mook, Loaded Lux, T Rex, and Cassidy. I can’t forget JadaKiss, Joe Budden, Eminem and my big brother Jordan Smith ( who is super smart and is very good with expressing himself in music). I have to mention myself, Raven Jones. I feel my life experiences gives me the ability to be creative, consistent and motivated!
How would you describe your style?
Cosmic. It’s kind of like ghetto spirituality. It’s a lot things: yin and yang, realistic, poetically ratchet, and seductively inviting. I’m a little Erykah Badu and Mary J. Blige mixed with Cardi B!
What separates you from other artists?
I don’t want to be separated or to fit in. That’s for my “FRANS” (friends who are now fans) to tell you.
Name some of the major artists you have performed with?
I haven’t performed with any major acts yet, but Erykah Badu and Diddy are at the top of my current wish list.
Do you have any major offers on the table?
None that have been accepted. I don’t want block my blessings being negative so I’ll leave it at that.
What advice would you offer other aspiring artists?
Stay true to yourself, be different and always promote and invest yourself. Understand that you are capable of manifesting the things you want in your world and keep learning. Shout out to my daughter Nyanza Kashiuh, My Mom’s (Alvina Smith) and my baby bro ( Lil Bro, Samba) who kept me spiritually and mentally alive! Love Y’all.
