Update: Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has been charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.
According to reports, the remaining former officers are still under investigation.
The former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who was captured in a viral video pressing his knee on the neck of George Floyd, is now in custody.
Floyd died while being restrained in handcuffs by three patrol officers including Chauvin while another stood guard, keeping witnesses away. He was being taken into custody after allegedly passing a counterfeit twenty-dollar bill.
During the video, Floyd is heard repeatedly begging for his life while Chauvin continued to kneel on his neck.
At press time, charges against Chauvin or the remaining three officers were also firedhave yet to be announced.
George Floyd’s death has sparked nationwide protest.
Prior to Floyd’s death, Derek Chauvin had at least eighteen complaints filed though he was only disciplined twice.
