Today, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison formally announced charges against all four former Minneapolis police officers in the homicide of George Floyd.
Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng held George Floyd down while Derek Chauvin placed his knee on the neck of Floyd for nearly nine minutes.
Tou Thao stood guard while George Floyd begged for his life. Ellison elevated the charges against Derek Chavin from third-degree murder to second-degree.
Lane, Kueng and Thao were indicted for aided and abetting second-degree murder as well as aiding and abetting manslaughter.
According to reports, Lane asked Chauvin to turn Floyd over to his side to no avail.
Together, the four men face a possibly maximum sentence of 40 years.
The new charges come after nearly a week of protests and riots erupted across the United States and beyond.
