World renowned hit maker Pete Rock is being honored for lifelong contribution to hip-hop by Tracklib, the world’s first and only record store for sampling, with new beat battle contest.

From working with CL Smooth as a powerhouse duo and producing timeless hip-hop classics like, “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)” to producing for Nas, Public Enemy, Run-DMC, Jay-Z & Kanye West, Pete Rock is a sampling trailblazer and innovator.

Along with Tracklib, Pete Rock is offering aspiring producers and musicians a chance to learn from one of the best with a one-on-one remote session with the master of sampling himself. Contestants can create a beat using a sample from the 1970s soul classic “Handle With Care” by Ben Aiken from label Reservoir. The winning beat will be selected by the Chocolate Boy Wonder himself, with the winner also receiving an autographed MPC Live II Retro Edition.

“I only sample stuff that gives me a good feel, something that sets my soul on fire,“ said Pete Rock. “I think Tracklib can change how people make music by letting the freedom of sampling take place.”

Tracklib has held a number of previous competitions and have received thousands of submissions from producers submitting for their chance to work with artists including Redman, 9th Wonder, Styles P, Inspectah Deck, Just Blaze, Cookin Soul and most recently Jim Jones and Maino aka the Lobby Boyz.

Interested producers can go to tracklib.com/peterock to see all of the rules and guidelines. This contest ends on Sunday, November 28th.
