Maya, played by Ashanti J’Aria, is stifled by complicated memories of her overbearing father begins a sexual relationship with a much younger man (Shomari Love) whose dark side impedes his journey as he navigates his way as a Black Man in America.
In addition to the ABFF, Maya & Her Lover has been selected and shown at the Pan-African Film Festival, the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival and the African Diaspora International Film Festival. The film was most recently screened at the Black Harvest Film Festival at the Siskel Film Center in Chicago.
