A Unanimous Win: Jake Paul Defeats Nate Diaz

Jake “The Problem Child” Paul wreaked havoc this past weekend, returning from his first loss against Tommy Fury. The YouTuber turned professional boxer hit the ring against former UFC veteran, Nate Diaz, inside a sold-out American Airlines Center in Dallas. While Diaz did put up a fight, utilizing his unorthodox style to land some blows, Paul’s punches were just too clean. Sending a flurry of body shots using long jabs and uppercuts for closer hits, Paul was relentless. After a hook to the face caught him in a daze, Diaz knew he had to tighten up. Late in the second half of the fight, the veteran gained some momentum, but his efforts still weren’t enough.

Round 1

Paul tears into Diaz early, rocking him with a right hand that threw the latter out of rhythm.

Round 2

Diaz appears to be confused. Paul initially blocks a slow combination thrown by Diaz, but the latter finally lands a right hand. Paul responds with hits to the body and face, but Diaz returns fire which is quickly met with shots from Paul.

Round 3

Paul lands an uppercut and a left hook early as Diaz battles back with a combination of his own. Once again, Paul lands another hit, this time a sweeping hook mixed with some body shots. The round ends with Paul landing a big right hand.

Round 4

Paul quickly sets the tone with a big uppercut to Diaz’s head. Diaz answers with some uppercuts and some clean combinations on the inside. Diaz closes in on Paul and gets him up against the ropes with a combination. Diaz continues his attack on Paul, making this his best round thus far.

Round 5

Diaz continues to apply pressure early on but a left hand from Paul drops Diaz. While he eventually rises, Paul unleashes an uppercut that rocks Diaz. When Diaz finds his footing and tries to rumble back, he looks to be gassed.

Round 6

Paul unleashes a combination that ends with a landed right hand. Diaz remains resilient as he fights back but is immediately met with a hard left hook from Paul. Unfazed by the hit, Diaz lands a combination on the inside, but Paul, once again, responded with a clean right hand.

Round 7

Diaz tries to press Paul, who backs him off and unloads a quick right-to-the-body and short-left that lands. On the inside, Diaz also unloads a combination of his own, landing a series of body shots.

Round 8

Diaz continues to apply pressure but Paul finds a way to land a couple of jabs and pivot away from Diaz closing in. Diaz won’t go away, however, and lands another combination as he surges forward with a pair of uppercuts. In one of his strongest rounds, Diaz ends the round hurting Paul with a right hand.

Round 9

Diaz and Paul trade hard jabs to open the round. Eventually, Diaz lands two big uppercuts and does some work on the inside; unwavering with the pressure. Diaz ends the round with a left hook and a right hand.

Round 10

Making up for the previous two rounds, Paul lands a jab and follows with a right hand, setting the tone for the rest of the match-up. Again, Paul slams a strong right hand into Diaz’s face and lets it pour on Diaz. Diaz, however, fires back, lighting Paul up with a combination before Paul lands an uppercut. Diaz lands the last hit with a hard left as the fight comes to a close.

Final Scores:  97-92, 98-91 & 98-91, Jake Paul
