Sean Kingston was arrested hours after his mother was apprehended by police during a raid on his Florida home.
Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Paul Anderson, was detained in California on Thursday, May 23, while at a U.S. Army base for a performance, according to the New York Post. He was booked to perform for the United States Army’s Family and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Programs at Fort Irwin’s Army Field.
Witnesses reported that Kingston was arrested for a Florida warrant as soon as he got off stage. He was taken to a jail in San Bernardino on charges of theft and fraud.
Earlier that day, Kingston’s mother, Janice Turner, was arrested after a SWAT team raided his home in Southwest Ranches, Fla. Turner, 61, was also charged with theft and fraud. Police seized several items from the property, including a large LED TV and home entertainment system.
The 232-inch television, which was composed of over 1,000 panels, had to be dismantled piece by piece by authorities. Dennis Card, an attorney for Ver Ver Entertainment, who sued Kingston over the remaining balance for the TV, was present during the raid and claimed Kingston had not yet paid his client.
Kingston was not home during the raid but later responded to the incident on his Instagram Story. It was his last post before his arrest.
“People love negative energy! I am good and so is my mother!.. my lawyers are handling everything as we speak,” Kingston wrote.
