WASHINGTON — As former President Donald Trump prepares to address the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) convention, Kamala Harris’s campaign has issued a statement sharply criticizing his past actions and rhetoric towards the Black press and Black communities.
Jasmine Harris, the Black Media Director for the Harris campaign, released a statement urging voters to remember Trump’s history with NABJ members. She accused him of demeaning Black journalists and undermining the media’s crucial role in democracy. “We know Donald Trump is going to lie about his record and the real harm he’s caused Black communities at NABJ – and he must be called out,” the statement read.
The campaign statement highlighted several key points of contention regarding Trump’s presidency. It accused him of lying about high Black unemployment and uninsured rates, mishandling the pandemic, and overseeing increased crime rates. Additionally, it criticized Trump’s Project 2025 agenda, claiming it would financially burden Black families.
Jasmine Harris emphasized the importance of holding Trump accountable for his “lies and empty pandering” and contrasted his record with the achievements of the Biden-Harris administration. She pointed to job creation, record-high Black employment, support for Black-owned businesses, and student debt relief as evidence of the administration’s commitment to the Black community.
“The choice could not be more clear,” the statement concluded, signaling a clear divide in policy and priorities between the two political figures.
As Trump speaks at the NABJ convention, the Harris campaign is determined to highlight the stakes in the upcoming election and mobilize Black voters to make their voices heard at the polls.
