The Source Magazine has issued an apology for its role in falsely reporting the death of the hip-hop iconic producer, DJ Clark Kent.

According to the Instagram post on the media outlet’s account, one of the writers allegedly received false information from someone believed to be a family member.

The false report led to widespread backlash as family members and friends of the beloved music producer expressed outrage over the magazine’s editorial team’s failure to verify the accuracy of the information before publishing.

The statement says, “Earlier this morning, a writer from The Source was contacted by a family member notifying us that DJ Clark Kent had passed away. Within minutes, we were contacted by numerous people, including representatives for DJ Clark Kent’s wife, who told us that he was still alive. We were asked to remove the post, and we have done so out of respect for DJ Clark Kent and his family, to whom we send our best wishes. As we aimed to inform, we also apologize for any discomfort to his family and loved ones and for any inaccurate information relayed from sources we reasonably relied upon. We certainly hope and pray that brother Clark Kent is doing well. Respectfully, The Source.”

Angie Martinez, who is widely recognized as a legendary journalist and radio personality, used social media as a platform to call out The Source’s error and highlight the importance of responsible journalism.

“The article that The Source Mag and others have posted about the passing of Dj Clark Kent is false. Clark is home with his family. Please refrain from sharing any other false information. It is hurtful, deeply irresponsible, and untrue.”
