At the San-Diego Comic-Con 2019 this Saturday, Marvel Studios announced that ‘Moonlight’ actor, Mahershala Ali will star as the new ‘Blade’ in the upcoming reboot.
The 1998 comic-based film, starring Wesley Snipes, depicted a half-human/half-vampire individual who has dedicated his life to hunting the undead. The original spawned two sequels, all starring Snipes as the lead role.
Ali will be taking over the role from Wesley Snipes, who started in the popular franchise during the late 90s into the early 2000s.
In 2017, Ali became the first Muslim to receive an Academy-award after winning in the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ category for the film ‘Moonlight.’ The next year, he won the award again for the film, ‘Green Book.’ Most recently, Ali starred in the lead role of the HBO crime series, ‘True Detective.’
The reboots release date has yet to be announced.
