A&R Report: Kaileah Mariee

Kaileah Mariee is more than just pretty face. The singer/songwriter crafts songs based on everyday experiences, making music her fans not only enjoy, but find it relatable.

When did you start performing?
When I was in elementary school I decided that I wanted to be a singer, but I was extremely shy. My first official performance was in the 8th grade with some friends at the Boys and Girls Club summer talent show singing My Little Secret by Xscape. In 2012, I became the lead singer to a short-lived cover band in San Antonio, Tx. Shortly after, I began writing my own music which lead to my first single “Satisfy You.”

Name some artists who have inspired or influenced you musically?
Early influences of artists would have to be Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, Tamia, Boyz II Men, Toni Braxton, and Destiny’s Child. Tamia’s “You Put A Move On My Heart” was the first song that truly made me want to be a singer and is one of my favorite songs even today.

How would you describe your songwriting or performance style?
When first started writing I wanted to bring back that 90s R&B music but I am moving towards music that people can relate to. I have attitude driven lyrics with a vibrant cadence. The urban driven rhythms have an underlying melodic tone type records that relate to the everyday woman.

What separates you from other artists?
What sets me apart from other artists is that I work hard to find my own sound and not be an imitation by making sure I’m involved in every step of the process ensuring that have a piece of me in it. The time and effort that I put into wording a line or letting an idea for a song creates life of its own ensuring who I am as an artist will never be the same as another.

Do you have any major offers on the table?
Right now I’m just trying to perfect my sound before considering any major moves. It’s about the art and story first. In my opinion, focusing on business dilutes the intensity of the music.
