NEW YORK — The 2023 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards are set to recognize outstanding songwriting achievements. Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) will honor Lil Wayne, the accomplished rapper, executive, and philanthropist, with the BMI Icon award. This prestigious accolade celebrates Lil Wayne’s impressive two-decade-plus career and his profound impact on the R&B and hip-hop genre.
The event will also spotlight the creative minds behind some of this year’s most notable hits, including tracks like “BILLIE EILISH.,” “Break My Soul,” “First Class,” “pushin P,” “Super Gremlin,” “Wait for U,” and “Woman.” Among the attending songwriters are ATL Jacob, BLEU, Big Freedia, Doug E. Fresh Greg Camp, Rogét Chahayed, Nija Charles, Flo Milli, Capella Grey, Gunna, Ja Rule, Juvenile, Tay Keith, Polow Da Don, Too Short, Tyga, Yeti Beats, Ying Yang Twins, and more.
The exclusive gathering, hosted by BMI President & CEO Mike O’Neill and BMI Vice President, Creative, Atlanta, Catherine Brewton, will also commemorate the 50-year legacy of Hip-Hop. Special tribute performances by prominent hip-hop artists will pay homage to the genre’s enduring influence over the past half-century.
The 2023 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards will recognize the songwriters and publishers behind the 35 most-performed R&B/Hip-Hop songs in the United States from BMI’s extensive collection of over 20.6 million musical works. Alongside this, the event will unveil awards for BMI’s R&B/Hip-Hop Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Publisher of the Year, and Producer of the Year.
