Rapper Busta Rhymes turned himself into police Tuesday following allegations that he assaulted his assistant during an argument earlier this month.
The alleged incident happened on Jan. 10 at the J Condominium in Brooklyn. According to reports, Rhymes confronted his 50-year-old assistant, Dashiel Gables, about using a phone during work hours. The situation escalated, and Rhymes is accused of punching Gables multiple times in the face.
Gables contacted 911 after Rhymes left the scene and later went to the hospital for treatment.
The artist faces charges of misdemeanor assault in the third degree, attempted assault, and harassment.
When approached for comment by the New York Post, Gables declined to provide details, citing legal concerns. “I can’t mess up my case, bro. It’s just not going to be worth it. An article in the paper as opposed to a six or seven-million-dollar settlement? I’m not risking it, sorry,” he said.
Representatives for Busta Rhymes have not commented on the case.
Rhymes, a prominent figure in hip-hop since the 1990s, is expected to appear in court at a later date.
