Celtics Defeat Mavericks 107-89 in Game 1 of NBA Finals

The Boston Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks, 107-89, in Game 1 of the 2024 NBA Finals, taking a 1-0 series lead. Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 22 points and 6 rebounds, while Kristaps Porzingis contributed 20 points (8-13 FG) and 6 rebounds. Jayson Tatum added 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Luka Doncic led the Mavericks with 30 points and 10 rebounds. P.J. Washington and Kyrie Irving combined for 26 points, with Washington scoring 14 points and grabbing 8 rebounds, and Irving adding 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists.

The Celtics made history with seven players hitting multiple 3-point shots, the most ever by a team in an NBA Finals game. This surpasses the previous record of six players, achieved by five teams, most recently by the Miami Heat against the Denver Nuggets on June 4, 2023.

Porzingis scored 18 points in the first half, marking the highest point total by a player in Game 1 of the Finals after missing the Conference Semifinals and Finals since the NBA adopted the 16-team playoff format in 1984. The previous record was seven points by Andre Iguodala in the 2022 Finals.

Doncic became the 10th player to record a 30-point double-double in his NBA Finals debut, the first since Tim Duncan’s 33 points and 16 rebounds in 1999.
