Mrs. Josephine Wright, a cherished matron of Wright family and Hilton Head Island native, passed away on January 7th at the age of 94.
Mrs. Wright gained national recognition for her legal battle against Bailey Point Investment LLC over her family’s ancestral land that dated back to the Civil War. The developer has been accused of implementing intimidation tactics to obtain the property. Her fight to withhold the property has garnered backing from individuals across the nation, including notable figures such as Snoop Dogg, Kyrie Irving, and Tyler Perry.

“To our Beloved Community, It is with heavy hearts that the Wright Family announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Mrs. Josephine Wright, who peacefully transitioned on January 7, 2024, surrounded by family, loved ones, and prayers. Her legacy as a pillar of strength, wisdom, and commitment to justice will forever remain etched in our hearts. As we navigate through the profound sadness of this loss, we find solace in knowing that Ms. Wright’s spirit lives on through the Josephine Wright Foundation.

Calvary Baptist Church on Hilton Head Island, Saturday, January 13th, 2024 at 11am EST. A link to a virtual service will be provided for those of you who cannot attend.
