Last week, rapper Jay-Z announced a partnership between his Roc Nation entertainment company and the NFL. This announcement sparked a wildfire amongst both critics and supporters of the hip hop mogul’s past backing of former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
In an impassioned Youtube post, the rapper defends Jay-Z, suggesting that critics of the mogul’s decision to partner with the NFL should “stop acting like having a seat at the table isn’t extremely important”. He continues by saying that all black NFL players and even black fans were not ready to turn their backs on the NFL, so having someone with the platform that Jay-Z has in partnership with the league will ultimately create positive change.
He furthers his point by saying that people should wait and see how Jay-Z’s decision plays out. The conscious rapper then encourages others to utilize their own platform to do something significant.
