This past week, court documents came to light showing that Donald Trump ran a fraudulent university that preyed on students.
In response to these charges, Trump chose to attack the judge involved with the case, and said that Judge Gonzalo Curiel had “an inherent conflict of interest” because of his “Mexican heritage.”
To be clear, Judge Curiel was born in Indiana, and he is an American citizen. Trump has since doubled-down on these racist remarks, questioning the ability of a Muslim-American judge to rule fairly.
Alleging that a person cannot perform their job because of the color of their skin or their heritage is an outrageously racist point of view that betrays our values as a country.
Join us at 11 a.m. today in front of Trump Tower where New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, New York City Councilman Carlos Menchaca, and allied groups like National Action Network will respond to Donald Trump’s remarks, and reaffirm Democrats’ commitment to equality under the law and a level playing field for all Americans.
Concurrently, in Indiana – Judge Curiel’s home state – and in other states across the country, Democrats will be holding events on Trump’s comments.
