LOS ANGELES — Brooklyn rapper Desiigner, born Sidney Royel Selby III, will not have to register as a sex offender unless mandated by the State of California, according to his attorney, Ryan Garry. This clarification comes after Desiigner’s recent sentencing for an incident on a flight in April 2023.
Media reports had raised questions about whether the “Panda” rapper would be obligated to register as a sex offender. Garry emphasized that such registration is not an automatic consequence of Desiigner’s sentence.
“Regarding the issue of Mr. Selby registering as a sex offender, many news outlets have incorrectly stated that he is required to register as an absolute condition of his probation. They are wrong,” Garry asserted.
Desiigner’s legal team has reviewed the case thoroughly, concluding that this federal misdemeanor conviction may not necessitate sex offender registration in California.
The case continues to garner attention, with Desiigner and his supporters awaiting the decision of California officials on this critical issue.
