On Thursday, many of most talented in hip-hop media gathered at IMI Studios in New York to listen to the forthcoming project from The Lobby Boyz, a group consisting up the city’s rap veterans Jim Jones and Maino. Musical legends Jerry Wonda and Pete Rock also dropped in to show the duo support.
The currently untitled project features the authentic street inspired rhymes and themes both rappers are known for over several creatively reworked samples from many of best hip-hop and R&B songs from the late 90s and early 2000s.
“We took a lot of samples that were familiar and modernized the drum patterns and the bass line to bring it to now,” Maino explained as we played the tentative songs from the album.
While each of the songs strongly stands out in their own unique way, the project is consistently dope and enjoyable from start to finish, making for one the best hip-hop projects to be released this year.
The Brooklyn artist also announced there will be a deluxe version that will include more songs planned to be release at a later date.
The event also was the launch of a special music production contest powered by Tracklib, the world’s first and only digital record store dedicated to sampling. Maino and Jim Jones will personally select a winner and consider the submissions for placement in the future.
Several beats from up and coming producers as part of the Tracklib Beat Battle competition were played during the session. However, talent can still submit their works online at http://www.tracklib.com/lobbyboyz through Sunday, October 10th.
