So Straight Outta Compton may not have been nominated for an Oscar but one of the stars, Corey Hawkins has landed the role of a lifetime. Yes, role of a lifetime if you are a “24” fan. Hawkins has been casted to play Eric Carter in FOX’s reboot of “24” titled, “24: Legacy”. Eric Carter is the new Jack Bauer who was played by Kiefer Sutherland.
After going off the air in 2010, “24” returned to television in 2014 with 12 episodes of the series titled “24: Live Another Day”. Talks surrounded bringing Live Another Day back for a second season but the powers that be decided maybe the show needed a fresh approach.
A reboot is exactly what it needs and who better to star other than Hawkins. His portrayal of Dr. Dre won over FOX and has opened the doors to other amazing opportunities, including his new role on King Kong: Skull Island alongside his “Compton” co-star Jason Mitchell.
Hawkins is a classically trained actor. He attended the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, DC and studied acting at Julliard, where he received the John Houseman Award for excellence in classical theater. Hawkins also played the role of Tybalt in 2013 Broadway production of “Romeo and Juliet” which starred Orlando Bloom as Romeo.
Although he’s the new guy on “24”, he’s no Jack Bauer so don’t get it twisted. His character Eric Carter is a lot harsher than Bauer and those are very tough shoes to fill. Being in physical shape is a must because Carter will be kicking ass every day.
Eric Carter is described as having turned his life around in the Army Rangers. Now back home in Virginia with his wife Nicole, Carter is pulled back into action as his past comes looking for him. Carter will ask CTU for help, and in stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil.
If you don’t know anything about the series “24” then go watch it On Demand. FOX is becoming committed to star black actors as the lead in many of their series and the response has been overwhelming. Get ready for the newest kick ass agent on the block. Soon Hawkins will be known as the man who will be taking over Bauer’s clockwatching.
