Furious 7 Smashes Guinness World Records Title

Guinness World Records, the global authority on record-breaking achievements, confirmed that Furious 7 is the new record holder for fastest time for a movie to gross $1 billion at the global box office.

Starring Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker, the latest film in the Fast and Furious franchise took a mere 17 days to break the $1 billion barrier, quickly surpassing previous record holder Avatar who reached the mark in 19 days.

Furious 7 has earned an estimated $735.2 million overseas in 17 days and an estimated $273.7 million in North America in 15 days. The movie was released on April 1, 2015, with its North American debut on April 3, 2015.

With the recent announcement of Fast and Furious 8, set for release in April 2017, the relentless success of the action packed film shows no signs of slowing down.

The blockbuster franchise also holds the record for Highest grossing car chase movie of all time, with its release of Fast and Furious 5 in 2011, which grossed $626 million worldwide by August 11, 2011.
