VH1 today announced today that Gabrielle Union will honor her mother at its annual “Dear Mama: A Love Letter to Moms” special. She joins previously announced participant Colin Kaepernick, as well as Emmy® and Golden Globe® nominee Anthony Anderson and VH1 fan favorite, actress, and New York Times best-selling author La La Anthony, who will return as this year’s hosts.
“Dear Mama: A Love Letter to Moms” will take place at The Theatre at Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, California and will premiere on Monday, May 7th at 9 PM ET/PT.
One of today’s hottest stars, Gabrielle Union, continues to shine. Union is currently the star of BET’s Being Mary Jane. She plays ‘Mary Jane Paul,’ a successful talk show host while balancing her professional and private life.
Gabrielle was also recently seen on the big screen in Think Like a Man, Think Like a Man Too and Top Five. Recently, Union released her memoir, We’re Going to Need More Wine: Stories That Are Funny, Complicated and True. which features series of essays, personal stories and reflections on a range of topics that continue to define the contemporary landscape: sexuality, womanhood, friendship, race, marriage and beauty.
Up next, Union can be seen in James McTeigue’s home-invasion drama Breaking In, which is scheduled to be released on May 11th by Universal Pictures, where she also serves as an executive producer.
Gabrielle’s film credits include Good Deeds, critically acclaimed Cadillac Records, The Perfect Holiday, Tyler Perry’s Daddy’s Little Girls, Running With Scissors, Bad Boys II, Universal’s cult hit Bring It On, Love & Basketball, Ten Things I Hate About You, and She’s All That, just to name a few.
On the small screen, Gabrielle made her debut in UPN’s hit comedy Moesha, and then went on to guest-star on such hit shows as ER, Dave’s World and The Steve Harvey Show. Shortly thereafter, Gabrielle had a recurring role on two WB hit shows, Sister, Sister and 7th Heaven. Gabrielle stirred things up when she guest starred as a love interest to both ‘Joey’ (Matt LeBlanc) and ‘Ross’ (David Schwimmer) on Friends. With this role, Gabrielle marked the first African-American love interest on the series.
