Gabrielle Union decided to teach her stepsons a valuable lesson in colorism: dark skin is just as beautiful as light skin.
The actress was recently a panelist for the 2018 Essence Festival, where she shared a story about when she challenged her stepsons to show her pictures of dark skinned women they found attractive.
This challenge combated the Wade boys’ typical ideals, which initially swayed them to show their stepmom pictures of different women but all with “the same light skin, curly hair, tiny waist, butt, boobs.”
“They don’t see the beauty unless it comes from an actress or a supermodel or a video vixen,” said Union. With a culture swamped in the world of Instagram models, it only makes sense.
Union, who revealed in 2017 that she has suffered multiple miscarriages, takes pride in being a stepmom. She has taken on the role feverishly since her marriage back in August 2014 to basketball star Dwayne Wade.
