FX has officially ordered a pilot for a Snowfall spinoff, moving the potential series closer to production, Variety has exclusively reported.
First revealed to be in early development in 2023, the untitled project will see Snowfall stars Gail Bean and Isaiah John reprise their roles as Wanda Bell-Simmons and Leon Simmons.
Set in Los Angeles during the 1990s, the story follows Wanda, a recovering addict, as she strives to bring West Coast rap into the mainstream while navigating the dangers of an escalating gang war. Malcolm Spellman will serve as writer and executive producer, joined by Snowfall alumni Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, and Trevor Engelson. FX Productions is behind the project.
Created by the late John Singleton, alongside Eric Amadio and Andron, Snowfall explored the impact of the crack cocaine epidemic in South Central Los Angeles. The show, which aired from 2017 to 2023, featured a cast that included Damson Idris, Carter Hudson, Emily Rios, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Michael Hyatt, Amin Joseph, Angela Lewis, and Alon Aboutboul.
A release date for the pilot has yet to be announced.
