After the departure of Steve Nash, the Brooklyn Nets seem to be moving swiftly and are progressing on the hiring of Ime Udoka. Reportedly, the suspended Boston Celtics coach could have a deal finalized as early as this week after the two teams meet and discuss.
With a successful run as a first-year head coach, Ime Udoka was expected to bring the team back this season for another shot at the title. However, over the summer, Ime got into some hot water just before pre-season games commenced. “Improper relations with a subordinate” landed him a one-year suspension in Boston – and his future with the franchise.. unknown. Ironically enough, Udoka was an assistant for Steve Nash during the 2020-2021 season and could be a perfect fit for the Nets who can’t seem to get into a winning groove – having lost five of seven games so far this season.
The Nets have gone through a rigorous vetting process around Udoka and his suspension, and are confident in bringing him into a team that needs his leadership. In addition to working with Nash, Udoka also has previous experience working with Ben Simmons, proving he could be a great fit for the team’s dynamics.
For the Celtics, an impressive start with their interim head coach, Joe Mazzulla, shows the team is moving forward just fine. It could really all make sense for both teams. We shall see..
