Rapper DeLorean, who resides on Houston’s south side, has seen first hand what a category 4 hurricane can do to a city.
On the evening of Friday, August 25th, Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Houston, TX. Before the weekend concluded, thousands of residents were displaced as over 50 inches of rain came down on the city. Many were left without power, food or a clean/dry place to sleep.
“This has to be one of the worst hurricanes in Houston I’ve witnessed in my life,” says DeLorean. “Cars are completely covered in water. Homes are filled with water to their sinks.”
DeLorean says that in the days following the hurricane, many are still afraid to evacuate as flood waters have filled the streets and made them unsafe.
“My dad was forced to evacuate his home this morning and they want us out by tomorrow night, but I’m not liking how the streets are looking. I’ll rather be up stairs than in the streets. We still have lights and food, thank God,” says DeLorean, who has been using his social media channels to spread as much helpful information to other Houstonians in the same predicament.
DeLorean urges his city to continue to take warnings seriously, as the battle is not over yet. “They’re opening up reservoirs and dams which will cause 5 feet or more standing water. I don’t quite understand this but I just hope everyone is taking this serious.”
