This May, Hulu and 20th Century are scheduled to release a remake of the iconic 90’s movie, “White Men Can’t Jump.” The film stars Jack Harlow, as Jeremy, and Sinqua Walls, as Kamal. The original movie made its US debut back on March 27, 1992, released by 20th Century Fox. Thirty-one years later, Jack and Sinqua have big shoes to fill, in this classic film’s reboot.
The new movie reveal was paired with a video trailer that was set to Skee-Lo’s “I Wish,” as Jack Harlow’s character is shown meeting up with Since Walls at a pick-up basketball game. Following the original movie’s plot, Harlow’s character lacks the funds to join and asks Kamal to cover for him. Throughout the 30-second trailer, the two main characters are seen exchanging some friendly banter as a montage of basketball scenes flashes across the screen.
“I knew this was a mistake,” says Kamal.
Teyana Taylor, along with Vince Staples, Myles Bullock, Lance Reddick, Tamera “Tee” kisses and Laura Harrier, all make appearances throughout the movie as well. Directed by Calmatic and co-written by Kenya Barris and Doug Hall, this remake is both a tribute to and a take on Ron Shelton’s 1992 sports comedy. The original film starred Woody Harrelson, Wesley Snipes, and Rosie Perez. Iconic, for sure. So expectations are high for this reboot.
The new take on “White Men Can’t Jump” drops on May 19th, on Hulu. Peep the trailer below.
