Jasmine Hall El of Strong Pure Simple is a rising star among today’s fitness trainers. By providing customizable plans while implementing proven methods, she is making her clients’ dreams come true.
Can you describe your approach to fitness training and what sets it apart from other methods in the industry?
Testing is the biggest thing. I let the science and test results lead my process. Most fitness professionals are attached to particular methods and modalities, and they think the same thing works for everyone. That’s why their results aren’t consistent. I’m a functional medicine research analyst, so I follow the science. My ego didn’t guide my practice.
What inspired you to pursue a career as a fitness trainer, and how has your inspiration evolved over time?
It was, honestly, a stumble. I initially wasn’t even interested. I knew I wanted a career in health, but I honestly felt like I was going to be a doctor initially. I stumbled across preventative health and found out that I was in my niche. I want to help people live longer and better. I don’t want to help people just survive.
How do you tailor fitness programs to meet the specific needs and goals of individual clients?
Consultations are non-negotiable. This is the only reason I can make your program customized to you. I also take it a step further with 3D body scanning and microbiome testing. The testing allows me to figure out what micronutrients you need, and the specific prebiotics and probiotics that your body needs. Health is not one-size-fits-all.
What are the most common challenges clients face when starting a fitness journey, and how do you help them overcome these obstacles?
The most common issues are confidence, time, and mindset. People are scared of failing, so they often don’t try completely because it hurts less when they fail if they didn’t give it their all. However, I challenge them from day one in this regard. I’m very frank and straightforward, this will not work for you don’t commit completely. We have accountability calls, and we talk about what’s actually being executed and what’s not. We have straightforward conversations about execution. As far as time life gets in the way all the time. This is the reason I offer meal delivery, equipment delivery, supplement dispensary, and personal assistant services. Anything you need, we’ll make it easier for you. Mindset, I set expectations in regard to the level of commitment that I need, and the mindset exercises are just as important as the physical things we do.
Could you share a few success stories that demonstrate the effectiveness of your training methods?
My methods vary from person to person.
For example, I had a teenager and her mother; they both had different goals. The mother wanted to build muscle and get rid of cellulite, while the teenage daughter wanted to lose overall fat and slim down. The daughter needed a subtle approach, she was very timid and shy. I motivated her by whispering and talking to her softly and understanding that she was easily embarrassed. But the mother needed more accountability and was more motivated by me challenging her to push—not quite boot camp, but close. I coached them in the same session with different methods, switching up as I approached each person. They both reached their goals, and I watched them both blossom in confidence.
How important are nutrition and lifestyle factors in achieving fitness goals, and how do you integrate these aspects into your training programs?
It’s a rare occasion that a client doesn’t need nutrition and lifestyle assistance. Those are usually the main two aspects that are keeping them from getting the results they want. During their consultation, I do a meticulous evaluation of nutrition and lifestyle, including medical testing, to get to the root of the issue. Which assists me in customizing their program specifically for their needs.
With the rise of virtual fitness platforms, how do you adapt your training approach to online settings while maintaining effectiveness and engagement?
With in-person training, it’s easy to accommodate on the spot, because you can read the client in the moment. With virtual, you have to do more upfront. I put all exercise routines on the SPS App, which has videos, examples, and detailed instructions and is available 24/7, so you have access whenever you need it. For one one-on-one sessions, I offer equipment delivery so clients can be prepared. I also do onboarding tech sessions to make sure the client is set up properly before our actual session. Preparation and communication are imperative for virtual clients.
How do you stay updated on the latest trends and research in fitness, and how do you incorporate them into your practice?
I follow the authorities in every discipline, and I research and follow the people they follow. I also subscribe to medical journals to research the actual studies to back up trends.
What advice would you give to someone new to fitness who is looking to establish a sustainable routine?
Prioritize and schedule everything that you want to make a priority. If you don’t, you’re probably not going to do it.
