Memphis has given us a multitude of great artists in every single genre of music. Kendrick P. is the city’s latest rising star looking to continue its prominence. His extraordinary concoction of hip-hop infused R&B and soul has led to an ever-increasing fanbase around the globe.
How does it feel to have your talent being acknowledged by critic and fans alike?
I’m grateful that people enjoy what I do. The feedback, bad or good, is always humbling. We do what we do to connect with the people in hopes they love & understand the art we create.
Who are some of the people who inspired you to pursue a career as an artist?
There’re so many great artists I could name. To say a few, guys like Chris Brown, Usher, T-Pain, Lil Wayne, J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Young Dolph, Nipsey Hussle, Yo Gotti, Sam Cook, Al Green, David Ruffin, UGK, Three6Mafia and a plethora of others.
Tell me about your brand new single “Get What You Give.”
“Get What You Give” comes from a place of pain, regret, and understanding. I really started to sit back and started seeing things for what they truly were and not what I hoped them to be. I was in a space where all the energy I was giving to some of the people I thought loved me most wasn’t reciprocated. The spaces I put myself in weren’t appreciative of who I am. Realizing that I had to change my environment and relationships for in health. I was drained and couldn’t take anymore fake love. Another thing is that it’s a just fact of life. What you give you get in return. The Karmic Cycle.
How has your music evolved since the beginning of your journey?
I’ve grown in understanding what & how I want to be heard. I’ve gotten better at writing and freestyling. I was melodically translating my life experiences through unique storylines. Now I’m tapping into another side of my musical ability. I am always studying music and testing myself. Planning to keep getting better as I grow.
If there was one word that best describes your sound which would it be?
Powerful
Are you looking for a major label deal or would you prefer to be independent?
A major label deal would be cool, of course. Has to make sense for me and the team. Other than that we have no problems staying independent. We know what we’re capable of and what product we have. We understand the game and with the steps we’re taking, we will succeed exceedingly in due time.
With so many young acts falling off in a few years, what will you do to prevent from sharing the same fate?
Simple. Be me and make great music. I’m not caught up in the hype of fame. And I’m not here to compete with anyone. I honestly feel like a lot of artists lose sight of why we’re blessed with this gift & opportunity in the first place. They forget how much work has to be consistently put in to sustain in this game. And Relationships matter! Be a good person and people will be good to you.
Lastly, tell our readers why they should check out your music and support your career?
I am a Memphis based R&B artist that is on a mission pushing love and purpose. My city loves me for the way I carry myself and they know that I am pure in my motives. My sound is like no other and I can give you whatever style you need. My music is for any and everyone to enjoy. I have love songs that could help connect a loving couple… Songs that will make you think about life and pain we all can relate to as well as stories of triumph and glory… Or something that just makes you feel good when you hear. All in all, I believe you would love my music. If you do, I would love to connect with you one day and hear why. Thank you!
