Interview: Model & Entrepreneur Medjine Dazulme

Redefining standards of beauty in the fashion industry, model and entrepreneur Medjine Dazulme elevates the wow-factor of any brand she wears. She’s a rising star in New York’s fashion scene.

You have established yourself as one of the most respected models in New York. What would you say has been the key to your success?
The key to my success, is that I never give up no matter how hard it take to get to what I wanted. And also, I don’t pay attention to what everyone else is doing. I focus on what I’m doing and most importantly believe in myself.

How did you overcome prejudices while you building your brand?
While I build my brand, I don’t really pay attention to what everyone else have to say. I do well under pressure, that doesn’t really bother me. Building a brand is not for the weak, you just have to be strong and keep going. they may end up copying you when your brand becomes successful.

Name some of the brands that you have worked with.
The brands that I have worked with include C’est Jolie Couture, Rose Headpiece, Medjine Eyewear, Exotic products, and Royal Blue Denim Wear.

What are your thoughts on they hyper-sexualization oft associated with urban modeling?
I will say that, as a model/designer, I see a lot of little girls where the designer or the parents let their teenagers model underwear during a fashion show or photo shoot. In my opinion and what I believe, I will say that let the kids be kids. Do not push them to be a grown up at a young age. Let them enjoy being kids.

As a designer, during fashion shows and photo shoots, I’m extra careful to what I let younger models wear. I think we should look out for other people’s children. When it comes to wearing makeup while modeling, I say yes. Just don’t let them wear clothing that is too revealing.

For adult models, that is something no one can help with because some of the designers have sexy clothing and someone has to model it, unless they are uncomfortable wearing it. If they are comfortable, it’s not that big of a deal. They are just modeling. I’m a big fan of seeing models love what they are wearing, feeling sexy and confident. As long I don’t see private body parts, it’s okay.

Where do you see yourself five years from now?
In five years, I see my brands becoming successful with me where I want it to be. And, a lot of progress. That’s the goal.

Any last thoughts you’d like to share with our readership?
My last thought is always believe in yourself. Go for what you want in life and don’t worry about the naysayers. Just go after your dreams and be unstoppable.
