Caitlin Clark.
Her name has been heavily circulated in the sports media networks and social media–for various reasons. One, undeniably, for her basketball skills. The Iowa college phenom became a recent topic of discussion with Ice Cube – who runs the BIG3 basketball league. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Cube addressed the leaked news of Clark’s Big3 offer. According to Cube, the offer was to be kept private for the duration of Clark’s 2024 NCAA women’s basketball tournament run. He described the move as a “no-brainer” given her skillset and popularity.
“We intended the offer to remain private while Caitlin Clark plays for the championship. But I won’t deny what’s now already out there: BIG3 made a historic offer to Caitlin Clark. Why wouldn’t we? Caitlin is a generational athlete who can achieve tremendous success in the BIG3.”
Cube’s BIG3 league had already made history when they hired female coaches, Nancy Lieberman and Lisa Leslie. Both, of whom, had won championships for their respective teams. Cube thinks that Clark can add to the history of the BIG3 and “break down even more barriers.”
He further elaborated.
“America’s women athletes should not be forced to spend their offseason playing in often dismal and dubious foreign countries just to make ends meet. And they should have more than just one professional option in the US at a time when American pro sports leagues are being infiltrated by autocratic, anti-women regimes such as Qatar. Our pathbreaking offer to Caitlin Clark demonstrates that BIG3 now offers another choice for athletes.”
Could you see Caitlin Clark putting up numbers in the BIG3? She surely has the potential to dominate. Only time will tell if this will come to fruition.
The skeptics laughed when we made Nancy Lieberman the first female coach of a men’s pro team, and she won the championship in her first year. Then Lisa Leslie won it all in year two. With our offer, Caitlin Clark can make history and break down even more barriers for women…
