J. Cole, the acclaimed North Carolina rapper and Dreamville Records founder, has launched a new audio series titled Inevitable. The series offers fans an unprecedented glimpse into Cole’s life and the early days of his career.
The project came to life after Cole’s manager, Ibrahim Hamad, discovered an old laptop in his garage containing a treasure trove of archived material from the rapper’s formative years. Working with filmmaker Scott Lazer, the team sifted through the recordings, blending reactions and commentary into an audio narrative.
The rapper introduced the project Sunday on social media with a trailer, describing it as an experimental format that feels like “a movie in the form of a conversation.”
“It’s hard to write a caption to describe what this is,” Cole wrote in the post. “I really don’t even know what to call it. We settled on calling it an ‘audio series.’”
Cole admitted he initially hesitated to share the deeply personal material but was motivated by a sense of responsibility to inspire others.
“As the years of my career grew I found myself much more hesitant to share details of my life with the world. Even as I type this, I feel the last little bit of resistance. ‘You sure you want to do this?’” Cole explained. “But if I was a younger version of myself, I know that I would get so much fuel from hearing this from somebody that went for theirs and ‘made it.’ For that reason, I think it’s worth sharing.”
The series explores pivotal moments from Cole’s life, reflecting on the drive and challenges that propelled him from Fayetteville, North Carolina, to global fame. Fans can anticipate an intimate, unfiltered look at the artist’s journey.
The release of Inevitable further cements Cole’s reputation as a storyteller willing to push creative boundaries.
