Join the Renaissance: Black Renaissance Label

Black Renaissance Label is a music production company whose mission is to work for social change in the music industry and society as a whole. Currently, BRL is producing a music project as an outlet for youth to address critical issues impacting our urban communities. Black Renaissance Label’s upcoming music project speaks to the angst of our people and creates an outlet of change for our youth. Current contributing collaborators include Fatlip of the Pharcyde, Myka9 and Self Jupiter of Freestyle Fellowship; Prince Po of Organized Konfusion, Urban Magazine, and more.

Black Renaissance Label was launched by Amir Alhambra and Rameses Sorrell in 2016. The two first met as undergraduate students at the University of Southern California in 1998 where they worked together on Hip-Hop projects with artists like Aloe Blacc and DJ Exile from Emanon, Living Legends, Otherwize, and more.

A native of Los Angeles, California, Amir Alhambra, also known as Amiri Dialect, started making beats utilizing an Akai MPC 2000 as a producer in 1998. He connected with Aspect 1 (Spec) and Dibia$e to form Missing Page Crew and performed with Phife Dawg from A Tribe Called Quest, MF Doom, and Madlib. Amiri Dialect was featured on Dibia$e’s mixtape entitled UpTheJoystick and Aspect 1’s album entitled The Butterfly Effect. Amiri Dialect collaborated with Dr.Oop to produce a full-length LP entitled MadZionist in 2013, which features Aloe Blacc and DJ Exile. Amiri Dialect has recorded with LA Hip-Hop legends such as Ellay Khule (Cali Classics and Project Blowed) Scarub from Living Legends, and Menacin Johnson. Amiri Dialect has performed with Fatlip, Aceyalone, Planet Asia, Myka 9, Bin Grim, EROIII, DJ Chuck Daggers, Signator Champion; and is visible in beat battles at Jelani Kimble’s DaILL Spot in Pomona, CA, and with DJ OHLOW of Beat Konductaz in DC.

Rameses Sorrell, also known as PreseWon!, is a young spiritual guru. He has a Master’s of Arts in Theology from Fuller Seminary and is Executive Ministry Leader at International Faith Foundation. Amir Alhambra is currently a doctoral candidate at George Washington University with a concentration in education law.

BRL works to give artists, listeners, youth, and community activists a fair representation by leveraging Hip-Hop music to express their voice for social change.
