Actor Jussie Smollett has been released from jail on a personal recognizance bond while appealing his conviction.

Smollett was sentenced to nearly five months in jail and 30 months of probations for falsely claiming to be a victim of racial violence.

His attorney Nenye Uche questioned the sentence and the motive for charges, declaring, “There is no room for politics in our court system.”

Uche also criticized Cook County Judge James Lin for lambasting Smollett for over 30 minutes.

“The judge spent a great deal of time chastising, berating my client. I’ve never seen that before.”

The former Empire star will forfeit the $150,000 bond if he fails to attends all forthcoming court sessions.
