Freedom of speech does not equate to freedom from consequences, a lesson that Kanye West seems to be unfortunately learning the hard way.
After making a series of offensive anti-Black and anti-semitic comments, especially during an appearance on N.O.R.E.’s Drink Champs podcast, several brands have severed ties with the troubled multi-hyphenate celebrity.
Most recently, Adidas have terminated their business relationship including his Yeezy line, decreasing his Forbes estimated net worth by $400 million.
According to the esteemed media outlet, West is no longer a billionaire by their calculations.
In a widely circulated statement, Adidas made it very clear that the once history making lucrative partnership has come to an end.
“Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech. Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful, and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness.
“After a thorough review, the company has taken the decision to terminate the partnership with Ye immediately, end production of Yeezy branded products and stop all payments to Ye and his companies. Adidas will stop the Adidas Yeezy business with immediate effect.”
