The legendary Kirk Franklin will soon have his life story depicted on the silver screen.
Inspirational speaker and former Sony exec, DeVon Franklin will be producing the currently untitled film, while Franklin is expected to serve as an executive producer under his company, Fo Yo Soul Productions.
DeVon Franklin, who is also a New York Times bestselling author, is well known for his work on the films ‘Miracles from Heaven,’ ‘Heaven is for Real,’ and most recently ‘Breakthrough.’ He has also worked on ‘Not Easily Broken,’ the Bill Duke film which stars Morris Chestnut and Taraji P. Henson.
Writer Brian Ivie will be in charge of the screenplay, following Franklin’s life from his rise to fame, to the triumphs and downfalls that came with his success. His most recent work, ‘Emanuel,’ was a documentary about the 2015 Charleston church massacre.
The 14-time Grammy award-winning gospel king released his debut, ‘Kirk Franklin & The Family,’ in 1993. The album sold over a million copies and reached platinum status. Gospel singer Tamela Mann and husband David Mann, both of whom would later rise to fame for their work with Tyler Perry, were members of ‘The Family’ during this period.
