Before we close out the year, we, at Urban Magazine, want to recognize the greatness that is Lebron James.
As the sports editor, I never want to be biased in my reporting or writing, because I love sports all around. Sure, I talk a lot of smack throughout the NBA season, because I’m a Celtics fan, and we don’t cheer for the Lakers. BUT there was no denying Lebron James’ performance last night in a Lakers uniform.
Even one of the greatest basketball players to wear a Celtics jersey had to give the King his props.

GOAT sh*t, indeed.
On his 38th birthday, LeBron James recorded a season-high, dropping 47 points against the Atlanta Hawks – leading his team to a much-needed win. To think the man started his NBA journey TWENTY years ago, and he’s still out here doing amazing sh*t. He’s still just a kid with big NBA dreams deep down inside, and he lives it out every night when he suits up and steps onto a court.
It was a sellout crowd at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, with his wife and mom watching courtside.
“They’ve been with me since before this 20-year campaign started. They’re the rock to everything that I do. To have them there tonight sitting courtside and just being a part of this journey, being here for my birthday, being here for the holidays, it’s pretty cool.”
On his 38th birthday, Lebron James proved why he’s king. Sure, we all have our opinions and takes on who’s the goat. We’re allowed to have our opinions. But there’s just no denying the greatness we witnessed last night.
To add to his 47 points, making 18 of 27 field goals, King James nearly got a triple-double, adding 10 rebounds and 9 assists to his stat sheet. This was truly astonishing, witnessing a 20-year veteran put up this kind of stat line.
The Lakers had lost nine of their last thirteen games leading up to last night’s game. As the away team, the odds were against them. None of that mattered. Lebron proved that even at his age, his love for basketball, his elite level of skills and play, is still relevant af.
In the last ten games, alone, Lebron has put up exceptional numbers.

You can hate him, or love him, but there’s no denying him. Even when Lebron James decides to hang up his jersey, he will go down as one of the greatest. We can debate this openly, and surely throw around stats and other names, but what the King did last night was nothing short of iconic. He has truly left his mark on the game of basketball.
