Calvin LeBrun, known professionally as Mister Cee, has died at 57. He was best known for his influential work on New York City’s RADIO 103.9 and Hot 97.
Born in 1966 in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant district, Mister Cee gained prominence as a member of the renowned Hip Hop group Juice Crew, alongside luminaries such as Kool G Rap, Biz Markie, and Masta Ace.
His contributions extended beyond the stage, notably serving as the DJ for Big Daddy Kane’s seminal 1988 debut album, “Long Live the Kane,” and as an executive producer for The Notorious B.I.G.’s iconic 1994 debut album, “Ready to Die.” Notably, Mister Cee was an early supporter of Biggie, providing a pivotal co-sign before the rapper’s breakthrough in The Source’s Unsigned Hype section, igniting his remarkable career trajectory.
During his tenure on the radio, particularly with Hot 97, Mister Cee earned the moniker “The Finisher,” reflecting his prowess and impact in the music industry.
