After her Thursday night performance at Milwaukee’s Summerfest, singer Lizzo expressed her frustration due to an apparent assault that occurred towards members of her team from a festival security guard.
The singer took to Twitter stating, “Did anybody get footage of the security guard that tackled and attacked my team? They slapped and manhandled my hair stylist and stylist and I’m out for blood.”
Marko Monroe, the singer’s stylist, spoke of the encounter with a series of stories on Instagram. He said that he was taking photos of the performance when he was assaulted by the security guard.
“He then grabs my arm and puts it behind my back. I’m like, ‘I work here, look at my badge,’ and he was not listening and he escorted me off the stage. Then finally the tour manager came through, and then the thing that really pissed me off is that the guy who manhandled me wanted me to apologize before I could be let out of jail” Monroe stated.
The “Juice” singer also tweeted a picture of herself, with the caption saying “Tonight was beautiful. You are beautiful. But the struggle ain’t over. Racism and bigotry don’t care if you’re a headliner. Thank you, Summerfest. We will be filing a complaint against that bigoted “security” guard and I hope you’ll be cooperative in seeking justice.”
Summerfest has since issued a statement, expressing their intolerance for such behavior and assuring the singer that there will be an investigation taking place.
On Twitter, the venue declared that they will take action, “Lizzo gave an incredible performance which she now feels is tarnished by events that occurred during the performance. We do not tolerate racism in any form. We will conduct a thorough investigation.”
