NIKE NYC’s NYvsNY, Week 2: Watson (BX) Recap

Nike's NYvsNY

In its fifth year, Nike NYC’s ‘NYvsNY‘ continues to thrive as it showcases some of the best-rising basketball talent in the city. Last night, they hosted Week 2 games in the Bronx at Watson.

Kickstarting the first game, West 4th faced off against Lincoln Park in what would turn out to be a thriller. Young talent from both squads balled out in their freshly designed uniforms in front of a packed-out crowd. Hip Hop music and entertaining commentary provided a classic New York City soundtrack for the back-to-back matchups.

In Game 1, Lincoln Park redeemed themselves in the fourth, closing out the win with a 2-point lead. There were moments when I had forgotten that these players were still very ripe in their basketball journey. They showed us glimpses of what they are capable of becoming, as they strive to reach the next level. It’s platforms such as NYvsNY that allow us to embrace the talent this City continues to breed and develop.

Taking us into the evening, Tri-State and the home team, Watson, geared up for Game 2.

An electrifying display of dunks, fastbreak points, and defensive stops, defined the closing matchup. As soon as Tri-State was pulling away, Watson showed just how gritty and clutch they were, all the way down to the wire. In the closing minutes, the relentless effort of Watson’s players resulted in Tri-State turnovers. Watson would then capitalize on their costly mistakes, converting them into easy buckets at the line. In a valiant effort to hit the game-winning shot, Tri-State couldn’t get a shot up quick enough as Watson hit a block at the buzzer.

66-68, Watson. Final.
