Making its return to the Big Apple this year, NIKE’s “NY vs NY” brought together the City’s best emerging high school talent. The annual tournament celebrates NYC’s basketball culture and love for the game. It also invites young hoopers to represent their neighborhood and showcase their skills. The event is known to draw the attention of celebrities and athletes, alike, as they watch and root for the next generation of ballers. The series of city-wide basketball games concluded at none other than the iconic Rucker Park in Harlem this past weekend.
In total, 12 girls and boys teams battled it out. Rotating courts through the boroughs, the city’s best young hoopers rotated games throughout blacktops across the boroughs – including games at Watson Park, Dyckman Park, Gersch Park, Lincoln Park, West 4th, and Milbank. The series was also commemorated with the special edition release of the Air Force 1 “NY vs NY.”
Week 1: Watson
Kicking off in the Bronx, Watson Park hosted Game 01 at the newly renovated Watson court, and ending at St. Raymond’s High School for Games 2 and 3.
Week 2: Dyckman
For Week 2, NY vs NY headed uptown to Dyckman Park where Jordan Brand’s new partnership came to life for the first time. Jumpman branding took over the park as the Zion 2 made its debut on the court. Gersh Park’s Tylaur Johnson racked up 10 points, while Dyckman’s Brandon Williams led all scorers with 13.
Week 3: Gersh
Taking it to Brooklyn, Week 3 took place at Gersh Park where the rain kept festivities indoors. But it didn’t stop the buckets from pouring down as Lincoln Park’s scored 24 points! Watson’s Youssouf Singer led Watson with 13 points.
