Controversial R&B legend R. Kelly’s fall from grace seems to be anything but over.
TMZ recently reported that some of his former staff members handed the police evidence in the form of twenty sex tapes, depicting the singer engaging in illegal sexual acts with underage girls.
This led to Kelly being arrested in Chicago on Thursday with an indictment of 13-counts, which included child pornography and sex trafficking charges.
Attorney Gerald Griggs, who represents several of Kelly’s victims, revealed that the Northern District of Illinois had overseen the investigation that would reveal the tapes.
A sex tape featuring Kelly and the 14-year old niece of R&B singer, Sparkle, surfaced back in the early 2000s. The situation was highly publicized and continuously joked about within the media. Comedian Dave Chappelle made a parody music video based on a scene in the tape where Kelly urinated on the young girl. Despite all of this, the singer was able to beat the case.
A former staff member and enabler admitted to recording some of the videos that featured Kelly having sexual relations with minors.
R. Kelly is scheduled for a detention hearing on Tuesday in New York. Prosecutes do not wish to grant him bail.
