LOS ANGELES (AP) — Grammy-winning producer and singer-songwriter Raphael Saadiq secured seven nominations for the 67th Annual GRAMMY® Awards today, thanks to his work on Beyoncé’s chart-topping country album, Cowboy Carter. Saadiq’s contributions to the album have earned him nominations in several high-profile categories, marking a career total of 22 GRAMMY® nominations.
Saadiq is nominated for Album of the Year for Cowboy Carter as well as Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Country Song for the hit single “Texas Hold ‘Em.” Beyoncé also garnered nominations for Best Country Album for Cowboy Carter, Best Country Solo Performance for “16 Carriages” — a song co-written with Saadiq — and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Bodyguard,” which Saadiq produced and co-wrote.
Celebrated as a “Renaissance Man” of modern music, Saadiq’s work on Cowboy Carter includes contributions to multiple tracks, such as “American Requiem,” “16 Carriages,” “Bodyguard,” and the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “Texas Hold ‘Em.” This latest wave of nominations underscores Saadiq’s versatility and four-decade influence in the industry.
Saadiq’s GRAMMY® success includes two prior wins: Best R&B Song for Erykah Badu’s “Love of My Life (An Ode to Hip-Hop)” in 2003 and Beyoncé’s “CUFF IT” in 2023. Over the years, he’s worked with a diverse lineup of artists, from Tupac and Whitney Houston to John Legend and Justin Timberlake. As a member of the influential R&B group Tony! Toni! Toné! and through solo projects, Saadiq has amassed hundreds of credits, including solo hits like “Get Involved” with Q-Tip and the iconic collaboration with D’Angelo on “Untitled (How Does It Feel).” His work has also earned him Academy® and Golden Globe® nominations for his music on the Mudbound soundtrack with Mary J.
