PARIS — American rapper Travis Scott has been detained by Paris authorities after allegedly assaulting a security guard at a luxury hotel, according to a report from NBC News.
Police were called to the George V hotel in central Paris overnight to intervene in a brawl involving Scott and his bodyguard, the Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed. The “Utopia” rapper was taken into custody following an altercation with a hotel security guard who attempted to intervene.
French authorities have referred the case to the 1st district of the judicial police for further investigation.
“We are in direct communication with the local Parisian authorities to swiftly resolve this matter and will provide updates when appropriate,” a representative for Scott told iHeartRadio.
Just hours before the reported incident, Scott was seen enjoying the Men’s Olympic basketball semifinal alongside his friend Quavo and entrepreneur Michael Rubin. The trio sat courtside as Team USA triumphed over Serbia. Following the game, Scott navigated through a throng of paparazzi eager to capture his movements.
Earlier this year, Scott faced legal issues in Miami Beach where he was arrested for disorderly intoxication and trespassing following a heated argument aboard a yacht. Charges against the rapper, born Jacques Webster, were recently dropped by prosecutors in Miami.
The incident in Paris marks another legal setback for Scott, whose global popularity as a musician has been accompanied by occasional brushes with the law.
