Coming off the success of his extraordinary single “Sometimes” which was featured in arguably the most powerful and emotionally-charged scene of season four of Showtime’s The Chi, R&B singer Davion Farris delivers another in the form of “Bad Guy”.
During an interview with Lis for our April issue (arriving next Friday, April 15th), Farris shared background on the new song and how his music is shaped and formed from his personal life experiences.
“My inspiration comes from my life… I write from my own personal experiences because I know that I’m not the only who has been through what I’m going through and art is suppose to allow people see themselves–and help learn and understand themselves in my opinion. That’s what I like do with my art.”
On the song “Bad Guy,” he depicts a painful conversation where he confronts a lover who exploited the intimate relationship for personal gain despite him having sincerely put forth his best efforts to do right by her.
“I write most of the time because I’m venting. It’s not just a random thing and this song is no exception… I was talking to someone and we had an agreement that we were going to be exclusive because we are both people who have access… I was supposed to leave on Saturday and they were making plans for Sunday (laughing)… So this is how that feels.”
After his impromptu performance of the song in the DKC News conference room, one thing that stands out is that his talent is undeniable. In fact, without the aid of studio gadgetry and effects, Davion Farris might be the best true R&B vocalist you have heard in decades. No hyperbole here, he is that good.
Listen to “Bad Guy” by Davion Farris on all major streaming platforms and read the full interview in the forthcoming April issue of Urban Magazine, arriving on the 15th.
