Just one day after Arizona Senator McCain decided to cease his cancer treatment, the 81-year-old passed away on Saturday, August 25.
The two time presidential candidate had been battling with an aggressive form of brain cancer, glioblastoma, since July 2017.
On Friday his family released a statement announcing that he would stopping his treatment.
McCain left behind a remarkable legacy for his five children, given he was a naval bomber pilot and prisoner of war. There is no question as to what America meant to the late senator.
Alongside the statements released by the McCain family, former Vice President Joe Biden, whose son similarly died from brain cancer in May 2015, shared his condolences.
McCain’s funeral will be held at the Washington National Cathedral.
