The National Basketball Association (NBA) and Kaiser Permanente are teaming up to host the third annual Total Health Forum on Thursday, March 1, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
Kaiser Permanente Chairman and CEO Bernard J. Tyson, NBA Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum, WNBA President Lisa Borders, Hall of Famer Dikembe Mutombo and Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms will come together to explore concepts of resilience and total health in our communities.
NBA All-Star Stephen Curry will join the forum’s host, ESPN SportsCenter anchor Hannah Storm, for a one-on-one conversation about the power of sports and his global community efforts.
This year’s forum will examine ways to improve the total health – body, mind and spirit – and well-being of underserved youth and families, reduce stigmas around mental health, and showcase how sports can create stronger and more inclusive communities in the U.S. and across the globe.
“Through our partnership with the NBA, we are able to make a positive difference in a matter that is vitally important to us both – the total health and well-being of America’s communities,” said Kaiser Permanente Chairman and CEO Bernard J. Tyson.
Kaiser Permanente Chief Community Health Officer Bechara Choucair, MD, will guide a thought-provoking panel discussion, and keynote speaker Laila Ali will share her experiences as a world-class athlete, fitness and nutrition expert and parent working toward total health. Additional participants will include Center for Disease Control Director of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity, Ruth Petersen and CEO of MENTOR, David Shapiro.
The non-profit Kaiser Permanente, the nation’s largest integrated health system, has served as the NBA’s official health care partner since 2015 and is the presenting partner of NBA FIT Week, held in January. Together, the NBA and Kaiser Permanente have hosted FIT clinics engaging thousands of youth in cities throughout the U.S. Kaiser Permanente also provides the NBA with research-oriented strategic consulting, health-related content, and the development of year-round health and wellness programs.
