NBC has this cute comedy show, The Carmichael Show, that has one of our favorite tv/movie moms, Loretta Devine. She plays the mother of comedian Jerrod Carmichael and the show follows his life experiences. This week’s episode was all about the planning of parenthood.

The episode starts off with Jerrod and his wife Maxine (Amber Stevens West) realizing that the condom broke when they were having sex. They panic and rush off to CVS for the plan B pill. However, CVS is closed so they start panicking.

Instead of heading back home they head to Jerrod’s parents house. At the house the family gets into a huge argument about whether Maxine should take a plan B pill or let nature takes its course. Cynthia Carmichael (Loretta Devine) thinks nature should take its course. She’s the mother of the family, so the idea of being grandmother appeals to her. The sister-in-law Nekeisha (Tiffany Haddish), on the other hand, has birth control and plan B pills available to keep her from getting pregnant.

The argument leads the couple to have their own discussion. Jerrod feels like he could go the rest of his life without having children while Maxine wants kids one day. After thinking it over, they finally come to an agreement.

The episode ends with the couple deciding they are not ready to become parents at the moment. However, the dynamic of it left this one question.

When it comes to having a beautiful child of your own, do you and your significant other include the rest of your family in the conversation? If you are a parent, did you include your parents in the discussion before having children?
